TRT Telemedicine

How it works and which states allow it.

7 min read

Telehealth TRT has grown significantly — you can now get diagnosed, treated, and monitored for low testosterone entirely online in most US states. Here's how it works and what to expect.

How Telehealth TRT Works

1

Online Consultation

You meet with a licensed provider via video call or async messaging. They review your symptoms and health history and determine whether lab testing is appropriate.

2

At-Home or Local Lab Work

The provider orders blood work. You can either go to a local lab (LabCorp/Quest) or in some cases use an at-home test kit. Results are reviewed by your provider.

3

Prescription & Medication Delivery

If TRT is appropriate, your provider writes a prescription. Medication — typically testosterone cypionate for injections — is shipped directly to your door from a compounding or retail pharmacy.

4

Ongoing Monitoring

You check in with your provider regularly (usually every 3–6 months) for follow-up labs and dose adjustments. Everything is handled remotely.

Is Telehealth TRT Legal in My State?

TRT via telemedicine is legal in most US states, but regulations vary. Providers must be licensed in the state where you're located — not where they're based. Most large telehealth TRT clinics are licensed in 30–50 states.

Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance, which means prescribing it via telemedicine is subject to both state and federal regulations. In most states, a provider can prescribe TRT after a proper evaluation and lab work — no in-person visit required.

Note: Regulations can change. Always verify with your provider that they're licensed to treat patients in your state before starting.
